Myself, as a vessel
2025
Copper, sterling silver, recycled mason jar, empty testosterone vials, patinated with liver of sulfur
Since I started taking testosterone, I’ve been saving the empty vials. I didn’t have a reason at first, but they’ve become a sort of progress tracker for my transition, piling up as I go through the process of masculinization.
The lid of the jar is modeled after my own face, and the silver embellishments mimic the positions of my real-life piercings. The jar is me and I am the jar. As testosterone is added to the vessel of my body, empty vials are added to the vessel of the jar. The steady accumulation of vials mimics my progress with hormone therapy.
